Impossible to find mechanics who are more trustworthy

Gregs automotive is so pro! They explain all procedures in detail, deliver on-time service and bill out according to agreed pricing. I'm satisfied quality, long-lasting workmanship was performed on my pick-up and I plan on making Gregs Automotive my permanent mechanic.

Tired of paying exorbitant fees to BMW dealers, I looked for an independent automotive service. Through AAA, I found Greg's Automotive and called on a Friday for an estimate for a brake job. The quote I received was significantly lower than BMW. I told the owner I would bring the car in the following Tuesday or Wednesday. I forgot to confirm and when I called on Tuesday morning to tell them I was bringing the car in, they almost did't take me, my fault. I appealed to Sheri, one of the owners, telling her that I would not be able to bring it in for several days and did not want my wife driving her car with defective brakes. She very kindly agreed to take the car and fix the brakes. They even gave me a ride home and when I picked up the car was given a AAA discount! I was very pleased with the entire transaction and I am pretty sure that Greg's will do all the repairs on our car from now on.

I've been going to Greg's on Mt. Helix for several years now. I have no plans to go anywhere else. Sheri and Brendon are absolutely wonderful. They patiently explain automotive issues and resolutions. I believe they are honest, fair, and totally professional - and I feel confident that they are giving me the best possible service. In my experience in the east county, they are the absolute best automotive shop. Stop going to the dealer....go to Greg's.

The other day I was at Costco and a man backed into my truck while I was buckling-in my 3 year old daughter. He hit the bumper with enough force to lift the truck and make a very loud noise. He didn't see that I was there and drove off. Fortunately, there were many people around who took pictures of his plate. The reason I am writing this is because I needed the number for Greg's Automotive to replace my bumper and looked it up online. It brought me to Yelp. I was surprised to see the negative ratings. My father has been using Greg's for years. He is extremely mechanically knowledgeable. He has replaced engines, transmissions, etc. He is just older now and wants someone else to twist the wrench for him. Since moving back to San Diego in the Mount Helix area, I have used Greg's to work on one of my vehicles. I am a die-hard researcher and found that Greg's was very fair priced. Being a researcher, I looked at all the reviews to figure out the narrative of this and hoped to find a common thread. I did. There are a clear themes with the negative posts. First, those who were disgruntled wanted the cheapest price for parts. Shops with integrity don't use the cheapest parts. If anyone young is ready this, please learn two things in life that will save you money, time, and frustration. Number 1, you get what you pay for. If it is cheap in price, it is cheap in quality. Number 2, if it seems too good to be true, then it really is. People make livings off of scamming others by thinking they can't pass up an unreal deal. There was a final theme that was related to customer service. I don't know how much credence I put into this one. The language of the posts leads me to believe that it may not be as described. Either way, I am paying for quality work, not therapy. I felt compelled to write this because I appreciate how Greg followed-up with his staff about the experiences and even implemented changes (battery issue). He replied, when appropriate, with integrity. I know how to twist a wrench and repair things. I have also made my fair share of mistakes in trying to get bargains. I will continue to use Greg's. By the way, I have never met Greg and have no affiliation to the company. I just always feel compelled to call BS when I see it. The internet can be cruel.

We've been going to Greg's for awhile now and they are always so helpful, friendly and reasonably quick.

My family has been coming to this location for over 30 years. I know it's different owners now and different mechanics but the loyal and professional service hasn't changed! I wouldn't dream of taking my cars anywhere else. Even when I've asked their opinion on certain services they've one back to me and told me they weren't necessary and not to waste my money. I recently had a Lexus that i just wanted the oil changed and a full inspection done. They found an oil leak and basically held my hand through the process of calling Lexus and getting them to take care of the $1,900 fix for free. This is what I mean as honest as the day is long. They looked up all the service records of the vehicle and car facts for me without me asking! You might find a little cheaper out there but that's exactly what you'll get....cheaper parts and fluids. There's a lot to be said about absolute piece of mind that the work is getting done right and your not having someone looking to make a few more bucks off you by selling work you don't need. Thank you guys for your integrity and strong morals As far as some of the bad reviews below I'd just like to say I'm sorry for your bad experience. With that said, as far as the price of oil changes go........like I stated above, if you want good products don't expect to get the Jiffy Lube $10 oil change. You're not going to get a recycled low viscosity oil here with a piece of junk filter. You won't be back in 3-5k miles to need another oil change. Instead you won't be back till around 8K miles. That's the reason it's more expensive. Do yourself a favor and research the oil that those fly by night places use
